Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), located in New Delhi, was established in 1920 by a group of nationalist Muslim scholars and political leaders during the colonial period. The founders included Maulana Mahmud Hasan, Hakim Ajmal Khan, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari, Abdul Majeed Khwaja, and Dr. Zakir Husain, who later became the President of India. JMI was conceived as a movement against colonial education and aimed to provide quality education rooted in Indian culture and nationalism.
